Tooth Coloured Restorations:
Whilst silver fillings are strong and durable there are now very good tooth coloured alternatives available. Tooth coloured filling can now be a personal choice of material when fillings are required or when silver fillings need to be replaced. They mimic the natural colour of the teeth so that the fillings cannot be seen.
Larger restorations can be replaced with tooth coloured inlays or onlays. These are partial crowns to restore structurally damaged tooth caused by deep caries. These are fabricated in the laboratory to get the exact tooth colour.
This may require two or more visits.

Many systems are available, at Cocoona dental, two types of whitening procedures are practiced; in-office and home whitening. Home whitening system involves bleaching one’s teeth at home but under a dentist prescription. The idea is to wear lightweight custom made trays which closely fit the teeth so that the bleaching gel held inside the trays covering only the teeth and not the gums. The trays are to be worn for 30 to 60 minutes every day for a period of 2-3 weeks or until the desired result shade is achieved.
There are two types of In-office teeth whitening laser whitening and Zoom. Zoom uses a light activated unit in combination with Hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel and is very popular amongst our patients. The light activates the chemical reaction of the bleaching gel applied onto the teeth whilst you sit in the dental chair. The light shines for 15 minutes and the colour of the teeth assessed after every 15 minutes. The procedure can be repeated up to 4 times, all in the same appointment.
Laser whitening is a similar process but instead of light it uses a laser to activate the chemical reaction and the procedure is for around 30 minutes. These techniques are suitable for patients who want to come in and have the whitening done in a couple of hours, rather than having the responsibility of wearing the trays at home for so many days.
Healthy mouths can have dark gums otherwise known as hyperpigmentation of the gums. This can make one’s smile look less attractive.
The most common cause of dark gums is the buildup of excess melanin build up in the gums, making them look brown or black instead of pink. This is not a disease but just being more common in certain ethnic groups with African or Middle Eastern ancestry. Other causes for dark gums include smoking, side effects from certain medications and a possible effect of amalgam fillings on the gum.
Gum bleaching or gum depigmentation is an aesthetic treatment turning the gums pink to make the smile look better
Gum Contouring and Reshaping:
Many are “not happy with their smile”.
Common problems which make a smile unattractive are the excessive display of gums (gummy smile), asymmetrical gum line making some teeth look small while others look large and lose of small gum tissue between teeth, exposing the roots, thus making the teeth look bigger or even unusually shaped.

This minimally invasive procedure is done by sculpting the gum tissue around the teeth with a diode laser. In some cases, gum contouring is done to improve the condition of poor existing oral health.
